Anthem Receivers: New and Improved for 2021

by Gary M.

Late last year, Anthem announced they had been working to improve their already best-in-class receivers, processors, and amplifiers, and new models were on the way. Based in Canada, Anthem has over twenty years of experience and strives to deliver one of the industry’s highest performance-to-value equations.

Because Anthem also manufactures processors and power amplifiers, their A/V receivers often include some of the same technologies developed for the separate components. That’s one of the reasons Anthem’s receivers are some of our favorites; if separates aren’t in your budget, you can still get top-quality performance from their more affordable receivers. We’re so happy these new Anthem A/V receivers are here!

Industry-Leading Room Correction with ARC® Genesis

There are many reasons Anthem receivers are so well received (pun intended). Certainly, Anthem Room Correction, or ARC®, is at the top of that list. The room itself will negatively impact audio performance, even with the best speakers and components money can buy. To counter this, Anthem receivers come with everything needed to help speakers sound their best in any given room. Even better, ARC® can account for four different settings, allowing you to optimize sound quality for a variety of situations, seating arrangements, furniture configuration, etc.

Many receivers come with room correction options, but ARC® is in a class of its own. As a Canadian company, Anthem engineers and technicians have access to the National Research Center (NRC). There, they’re able to develop and fine-tune their products using some of the world’s best audio test equipment.

New Anthem Receivers: MRX 540, MRX 740, and MRX 1140

The new models in Anthem’s A/V receiver line are the MRX 540, MRX 740, and the MRX 1140 which power 5, 7, and 11 amplifier channels, respectively. Upgrade from the MRX 540 to MRX 740 for zone 2 audio and video outputs and 11.2 processing. Or, go with the top-of-the-line MRX 1140 for 15.2 channel processing with preamp outputs for each channel!

These new units are housed in a modern, sleek design with a high-resolution display on the front panel.

In addition to including ARC®, these new models also come with:

  • 24Bit DAC (digital to analog converter) for streaming audio with reduced jitter
  • Channel Reassignment – more flexibility in assigning channels when pairing a receiver with an additional power amp
  • Anthem Web User Interface – an easy-to-use web interface accessible from mobile devices and computers for setup and updates
  • Popular streaming options like Chromecast and Airplay 2
