What’s New in the Sony VPL-XW5000ES Projector?
The VPL-XW5000ES replaces the VPL-VW325ES and improves on everything from the light source, to picture processing, to chassis design. The most obvious upgrade, of course, is the move to a 2,000 lumen laser light source. A laser light source maintains its brightness for much longer than a lamp; in fact, the XW5000ES delivers 20,000 viewing hours before brightness is reduced!
In true Sony fashion, this new model delivers native 4K resolution through the use of three SXRD panels. Unlike other projector brands that employ pixel-shifting technology and low-resolution panels to mimic 4K resolution, these newly designed and impressively small SXRD chips are equipped with 3,840 x 2,160 pixels each to produce a true 4K picture with spectacular detail and clarity.
Of course, the picture quality is dependent on picture processing, too. The new XW Series projectors include an upgraded video processor, the flagship-level X1 Ultimate for projector. Previously only used in Sony’s top-of-the-line projectors, the X1 Ultimate for projector is responsible for analyzing, processing, and enhancing image quality. Technologies such as Object-based HDR Remaster and Super Resolution deliver exceptional accuracy, Dynamic HDR Enhancer optimizes scene-by-scene contrast, and Dual Database Processing reduces on-screen noise and upscales content resolution.
